2010 Season - Week 19
And then there were four
Both the number one seeds crashed out to six seeds as Green Bay demolished Atlanta 48-21 while The Jets upset The Patriots 29-21. More to form, Pittsburgh beat up and beat Baltimore 31-24 and Chicago crushed the upstart Seahawks 35-24. So that leaves the championship games as NY Jets @ number two seed Pittsburgh in the AFC and Green Bay @ #2 Chicago in the NFC. In week 15 (just last month) the Jets went into Pittsburgh and upset the Steelers 22-17 when Ben Roethlisberger’s pass from the Jets 10 yard line fell incomplete as time expired. One of the greatest NFL rivalries (Packers/Bears) has only been played at this stage of the season once before. In 1941 (just one week after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbour) Chicago defeated Green Bay 33-14 before defeating The Giants 37-9 to win the NFL Crown. More recently Chicago had a chance to knock Green Bay out of the playoffs in week 17. Had Chicago won Tampa Bay, not Green Bay would have made the postseason but The Packers prevailed 10-3 on Donald Lee’s catch with 12 minutes to go. That split the season games as Chicago won 20-17 at Soldier Field back in week three on Robbie Gould’s field goal with just 3 seconds left. Hope this Sunday’s games are as close.
